Mehwish Hayat, Hania Aamir Slam Priyanka Chopra for Her Jingoism
Where Mehwish Hayat called out Priyanka Chopra for her jingoism and pro-war attitude in a recent interview with CNN, the sarcastic post by Hania Aamir is also making headlines!
Bollywood superstar Priyanka Chopra is facing a lot of criticism these days for her mean remarks towards a Pakistani girl. Several Pakistani celebrities called her out for her jingoism being a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and she is making headlines all over the world. Recently, our superstar Mehwish Hayat has slammed Priyanka Chopra in an interview with CNN and we absolutely loved what our Gangster Guriya has to say about this!
Mehwish Hayat, who also received Pride of Performance Award in Norway recently, lashed out at Priyanka Chopra for her jingoism and pro-war attitude and for supporting nuclear war amidst tension between Pakistan and India.
In an op-ed for CNN titled ‘The Problen with Priyanka Chopra’, Mehwish Hayat wrote:
Priyanka Chopra, a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, should not be using her voice to legitimize a regime opposed to the values she claims to represent.

I was honoured to address distinguished guests including The Right Honourable Prime Minister of Norway, Madam Erna Solberg at a Peace event in Oslo where I was recognised with an award for Pride of Performance. I was able use the prestigious forum to talk about the the role of cinema in promoting peace. Unfortunately the way we are being represented is creating divides… Bollywood could have used cinema to promote mutual understanding instead of vilifying us as they do. They need to decide which is more important – nationalistic fervour or a peaceful future. #MehwishHayat #Oslo #HomeofNobelPeacePrize #PeaceDialogue
Mehwish Hayat called out the Bollywood actor for not putting efforts in promoting peace between the two countries as a United Nations goodwill ambassador.
Mehwish added that Priyanka’s response had the effect of both shining a light on the crisis in Kashmir (despite India’s media blackout and food blockade there), and forcing many of us to think about celebrity activism, its uses – and its abuses.
Celebrities who act as charity spokespeople should always focus on humanitarianism. Chopra – again, a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador – should not be using her voice to legitimize a regime opposed to the values she claims to represent.
Celebrity activism often escapes the kind of scrutiny most political activism is subjected to. It is often seen as either positive or pointless – but rarely dangerous.
Mehwish said that Priyanka could have used her position as a US-based celebrity to broaden what it means to be a Bollywood star but she failed and fell into the same jingoistic role.
It’s this kind of failure that tempts many observers to insist that celebrities stay out of politics completely. Just look at the damage those ill-informed starlets can cause, they say, wading into issues they know nothing about. They should shut up and stick to entertaining us – in silence.
These are issues I have struggled with for years. I’m well known in my native Pakistan and (increasingly) internationally, I have an audience that I can influence. Speaking up as a young woman, and especially as an artist, in Pakistan is not easy, so I have to pick my battles carefully.
Moreover, Mehwish said that as a celebrity we should focus more on the human suffering rather than lending our name to racism dressed up as patriotism.
My intention when speaking about women’s rights, girls’ education, or supporting humanitarian charity work is to unite people – not divide them.
The only way to do this is to avoid the path of least resistance – populist rhetoric – and focus on the universal humanitarian causes that all sides can agree on.
This where Priyanka Chopra and others have made a mistake: by lending their name to racism dressed up as patriotism, they have done us all a disservice.”
It is human suffering that those with a platform must focus on.

Not only Mehwish Hayat, but another star Hania Aamir also took a dig at Priyanka recently in a sarcastic way for her pro-war attitude.
Known for her outspoken nature and quirky remarks, Hania Aamir took to Instagram while sharing a stunning picture of her in a gorgeous green dress. However, as much as we adore her picture her caption is even more hilarious!

That’s not it, Hania added another epic one liner in the comments that was directed towards Priyanka Chopra in a sarcastic way and we are loving it!
Priyanka Chopra found herself in hot waters after a video went viral on the internet in which she scoffed at a Pakistani-American woman’s questioning her role as a peace ambassador at the BeautyCon summit in Los Angeles.
Priyanka Chopra said:
“Girl, don’t yell. We’re all here for love. Don’t yell. Don’t embarrass yourself.”
